Makar Sankranti is celebrated every year on January 14, but this year it will be celebrated all over the country on January 15. Therefore, according to scripture, due to the solstice at midnight, the virtuous period is on the next day. It is good to wake up in the morning on this day and offer water, sesame seeds and red sandalwood to the sun god.
In Paush Mash, Hindus celebrate Makar Sankranti when the Sun enters the Capricorn sign except for Sagittarius. Since the day of Sankrant, there is Uttarayan motion of the Sun. Lord Surya visits his son Shani at his house, who is the lord of Shani Dev Capricorn. Hence this festival is known as Makar Sankranti. On this day, chanting, austerity and charity are of particular importance.
On this day, after taking a bath in the morning, people worship Agnidev and Suryadev. After this, celebrate the festival of Makar Sankranti with sesame laddus, khichdi and sweetness of the dishes. In many areas of the country including Gujarat and Delhi, people also do kite flying on this day.
