History of DNS-
Nearly 40 years ago, when the Internet was small in size, there were very few websites and devices which were easy for the people to remember their IP address.
But as the size of the network increased and the number of websites increased, it was very difficult to remember the IP address of all of them.
To deal with this problem, in the 1980s, a computer scientist named Paul Mockapetris invented the domain name system to give the website a human readable name (some English names) that we humans are easy to remember.
Although you can still access a website through IP, but hardly you will know about the IP of a website, well… usually we do not even need it.

So why should we know how DNS works…
How does DNS work?-
When we enter the address of a website ie domain name like google.com in the address bar of the browser, the first task is to find the IP address of that domain, for this it is first checked the cache memory of the browser if you If you have visited Google’s website, then its IP address can be stored in your browser’s cache.
If the IP is found in the cache, it opens the website.
If the IP information is not stored in the browser cache, it will request transfer to the operating system of your system such as Windows, Android or Mac.
Your operating system sends this request to the resolver ie your Internet Service Provider (ISP) which also has a cache which can contain a record of IP address.
If IP is found here then this process ends and the client is informed of the IP and the website is accessed.
If the IP is not found here also, the request is transferred from the resolver and goes to the root server.
The Root server further requests the top level domain server which has information about the servers of the top-level domain such as .com, .org, .edu, .gov, .in. Here the appropriate top level domain server is contacted according to the domain of the website. For example, request will be sent to .com server for our website webinhindi.
After getting the information from the top level domain server, now finally the information of the actual name server is taken from the authoritative name server and from here the IP address of the domain is known.
When the IP address is found, it is sent to the client, so that the website can be accessed through it and the IP is also stored in the cache so that this process will not have to be done again the next time.
